Liz Haywood-Sullivan Demo via Zoom
Liz Haywood-Sullivan will be doing a 2 hour demo for our MAPS members via Zoom followed by a Q&A session. Her Zoom demo will be recorded and posted on our website. Our "door prizes" for this meeting will be a copy of Liz's book "Painting Brilliant Skies and Water in Pastel" (now out of print), and her recommended sketch kit she developed which is available exclusively at Rochester Art Supply. Liz was one of MAPS' first workshop instructors in February 2017. Liz is a past President of IAPS and has received many honors for her pastel paintings, including Master Pastelist status with the Pastel Society of America and Master Circle and Eminent Pastelist designations with IAPS. Jeri Greenberg - Critique & Comments on our Annual Judged Exhibit Paintings
Jeri Greenberg, the judge of awards for our Annual Judged Exhibit Paintings, will discuss the criteria upon which she bases judging. She will present her critique and comments on our six award winning paintings plus a few other paintings in the exhibit that will be volunteered by members. Jeri is an award winning pastel painter and a member of IAPS's Masters Circle, and is conducting a MAPS workshop on Still Lifes and Interiors on Oct 29-30. Becky Sciullo: Build a Dynamic Web Presence
Becky Sciullo of Artisan Advantage will share her process on how to build a time-efficient marketing system for a visual art business. In 2007, Becky helped her artist father sell a large body of work by building a web-based marketing system, and has subsequently developed a systematic process she shares with artists on how to build their own web presence. Rita Kirkman - Creating a Good Reference Photo
If you've ever struggled with how to take and create good reference photos from which to paint, Rita Kirkman can help. Rita's tips on how to take good reference photos in terms of lighting, composition and subject are a good start. Rita will also discuss what things to consider when manipulating photos to improve them for painting. Rita will cover various subjects like figurative, animals, and landscapes. This is not a camera class or Photoshop class, but instead is practical advice on things to consider when making reference photos. Rita Kirkman's art has been featured in the Pastel Journal and the Pratique des Arts Spécial Pastel and published in many others. Les Darlow - Demo in Pan Pastels
Les Darlow, a pastel artist living in the UK, will be doing a landscape demo for our members using Pan Pastels. Les loves painting skies and thinks they are the key to a great landscape. Les has "a fascination for storms and extreme weather", which is reflected in his stunning landscapes. Les works his Pan Pastel magic on Canson Mi-Tientes paper, a surface that many of us have struggled with. After training as a technical illustrator, Les now paints "expressively, producing paintings based on feeling, light, energy and movement." He has a love and passion for weather and landscapes of subjects with a personal connection.
