Adrian Giuliani Presentation (Zoom) - "Ideas and Philosophies about Art Making: Looking at Things in a New Light"

In this presentation, I will be sharing some of my ideas and philosophies about Art Making.  These connect to our art making, but all may also be applied to life.  Over the years, while creating in my own experience, I have discovered some ways of looking at things that may empower us, once we recognize and embrace them.  Simply shifting our way of thinking can open ourselves up to being fearless and experimental, with no judgment about our experiments, whether they become finished pieces or not.

1:00 pm: Luana Luconi-Winner Presentation (90 minutes)
Luana Luconi Winner (Zoom) - "How Would Sargent Paint Them: The Color of People"

Portrait artist, master pastelist, author, and favored instructor Luana Luconi Winner will present an active program inspired by the 2023-24 “Fashioned by Sargent” exhibition at the Fine Arts Museum of Boston and at the Tate in London.

After a short history of Sargent, she will then focus on Sargent’s extraordinary handling of skin tones. Luana will explain the very specific differences in how Sargent depicted the blue bloods of Europe, the creamy debutants of the United States, and the country people in the small villages he visited on his travels.

Luana will show how some of his favorite subjects might have been created with demos in pastel on five different skin tones in miniature copies of Sargent’s portraits. Following will be a short portrait demonstration, copying the head only from Sargent’s portrait of Frederick Law Olmsted, the  landscape architect of more than 100 public parks in the U.S. from Central Park in New York to the Biltmore House in Asheville, NC.

Luana is a founding member of the Portrait Society of America, a Juried Member of the Portrait Society of Atlanta, an elected Master Circle member of the International Association of Pastel Societies, and a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America. She is also a Signature Member, past president, and honorary lifetime member of the Pastel Society of North Carolina; Master Pastelist with the Southeastern Pastel Society, North Carolina Ambassador for the Portrait Society of America, and an active member of several other art boards and national art organizations.
